Grateful for Butterfly Kisses – #TTTC195

It’s time for another Tic Tac Toe Challenge.  This week Karen created a fun board for us to gather inspiration.  This board is full of fun elements to choose from.  

I took my inspiration from the first column down: Die Cuts, Layers, Butterfly.

January has been a looong month here in PA and we haven’t even had any snow…yet!  And Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today predicting 6 more weeks of winter.  Not sure what he knows!! So to battle the winter doldrums, I’m pulling out the Butterfly Kisses Designer Series Paper and making some happy cards.  The flower and butterfly patterns in this collection are so bright and cheerful.

Materials & Measurements

• Basic White thick card base: cut at 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
• Butterfly Kisses DSP pattern: cut at 5 3/8 x 4 1/8″ and 4″ x 2 1/2″
• Basic Black panel:  cut using the 2nd largest Rectangle Stitched die
• Basic White panel: cut using the 3rd largest Rectangle Stitched die
• Sentiment strips:  Fresh Freesia & Basic White cut with Rectangle Stitched dies

Details

• Adhere the larger DSP cut to the card base.
• I used the butterfly die from the Designer Tags dies and randomly cut three from the white Rectangle Stitched panel.  Save the intricate butterfly die cuts for another project or you could color them and use them on this project (which I did not).
• Then glue the 4″ x 2 1/2″ DSP panel to the underside to fill the open butterfly area.
• Next glue that panel to the black Rectangle Stitched panel.
• Here’s a visual on how I put these panels together.

 

• Adhere the butterfly panel to the card base.
• Cut three more butterflies from:  Fresh Freesia, Crushed Curry and Calypso Coral cardstock (or if you colored the white ones, you can skip this step) and add glue to just the center to adhere to each butterfly opening.  Fluff up the wings a little for some dimension.
• I colored some pearls using a black sharpie to add to the butterfly body.
• I stamped the sentiment from the Cottage Wreath stamp set onto the small white rectangle and layered it on the Fresh Freesia rectangle.  Glue this to the front of the butterfly panel.
• I added a few embellishments from my stash to the sentiment panel.
