Foxy Birthday

Today I am entering my card share in two challenges. I do enjoy combining challenges when the opportunity presents itself as these two did….

Creating a birthday card for the Can You Case It challenge using the Paper Players sketch was really fun…..

I absolutely loved the Foxy Friends bundle when it came out in the Annual Catalog and just had to have it…and there it sat on my shelf! I only made one other card with it here. But I plan to change that.

The card base is Whisper White thick cardstock. The Pool Party mat is embossed with the Woodgrain embossing folder.

The DSP is from A Little Foxy 6 x 6 Paper Stack which coordinates with this stamp set. The fox is stamped in Calypso Coral and punched using the Fox Builder punch. The little tree stump is stamped in Chocolate Chip and fussy cut. The sweet little mushrooms were cut from another pattern from the DSP stack. Lastly, the little banner is stamped with a sentiment from the Designer Tin of Cards stamp set.

The inside sentiment is from the Mixed Borders stamp set and is stamped in Calypso Coral ink. The bottom is embellished with a bit of DSP again from A Little Foxy paper stack and a strip of Smoky Slate cardstock.

By combining these two challenges, I’ve come up with a sweet little birthday card. I hope you enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed making it. Stay tuned for more from this wonderful bundle!

Forever Begins Today – SIP #57

Happy Friday….hope you have a wonderful weekend planned. It is supposed to be extremely hot here in PA this weekend. But I’m certainly not complaining…because I LOVE summer!

Today’s card is my entry for the Stamp, Ink, Paper challenge…this was fun!

Black and White cards really lend themselves to more formal cards like wedding cards, in my opinion…so that’s just what I made.

This is a 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ square card. The card base is Whisper White thick cardstock. The white layer is embossed with the Elegant Dots embossing folder.

The Flourish thinlits make for a beautiful trail for the Butterfly, which is cut using both the Bold Butterfly framelits and the Butterflies thinlits. I really like how these two sets coordinate to make very intricate and beautiful butterflies. The sentiment is from the Suite Sayings stamp set. I cut it out using the Decorative Label punch. You will notice that it doesn’t look exactly like the punch. I cut it down to fit the card better. It’s almost like having another punch.

The inside sentiment is from the Floral Phrases stamp set and is perfect for a wedding card.

Although I created a wedding card here, this card could easily be used for so many other occasions.

Watercolor Artwork – Paper Players #304

I’m back again with another challenge card. These challenges really keep me on my game and then some. Here is this week’s Paper Player’s challenge…

The “then some” I mentioned above pertains to this challenge. I have never watercolored before. Usually I color using ink and a blender pen. But for this challenge, I needed to break out the Aqua Painter to see what I could do…

The card base is Basic Black with a mat of watercolor paper. The image is also stamped on watercolor paper with mat of Basic Black.

Since this was my first time watercoloring, I experimented with different techniques. The one that worked best for me was to place a few drops of reinker on a surface and then dip the Aqua Painter in it and brush the color across the watercolor paper. The colors I used are Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzazz and Real Red. After allowing it to dry, I stamped the sentiment from there Painter’s Palette stamp set in Basic Black. The little butterflies are from the Butterfly Basics stamp set and punched with the Bitty Butterfly punch and adhered with glue dots. I chose this butterfly because I thought the words were so appropriate for this card.

The inside sentiment is also from the Painter’s Palette set.

Full disclosure here: It took many tries before I achieved a look that I liked and then when I had the watercoloring just right, I messed up the stamping! I was FINALLY happy to get the result I wanted.

As for watercoloring, I do have a true watercolor artist in my family. My daughter Lauren is a watercolorist with so much talent. However, she certainly did not inherit it from me. Here is an example of Lauren’s work.

Petite Petals for CYCI #129

One of the things (among so many) that I like about cardmaking challenges is not really knowing exactly what the end result will be until I actually finish the card. My card for the Can You Case It color challenge was one of those cards. I was thinking about so many possibilities for this color combo…

Once again, I reached for a flower stamp set….

The card base is Sahara Sand. I then cut another piece of Sahara Sand 1/8″ smaller and adhered a 2″ piece of DSP from the Moroccan Designer Series Paper Pack. The blue trim is Dapper Denim cardstock. I popped this panel on the card base with dimensionals.

The bouquet of flowers are from the Petite Petals stamp set. They are stamped in Basic Black and colored with Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight ink using a blender pen. I punched them out with the Petite Petals punch which made making so many a breeze. I cut a circle from a retired circle punch and used mini glue dots to adhere the flowers. Then just popped the circle on the card with a dimensional. The two loose flowers were also popped up with dimensionals. The sentiment is from the Tin of Cards stamp set stamped in Dapper Denim ink.

The inside sentiment is from the Bunch of Blooms stamp set and is stamped in Dapper Denim.

Just a little matching DSP and cardstock on the envelope flap completes the card.

I know that the Petite Petals stamp set has been around for quite some time now, but love how new DSP can breathe some freshness into it! Please let me know what you think of this little update…..
