Watercolor Wings Birthday

Watercolor Wings Birthday Card Idea - Rosanne Mulhern stampinup

I took a little blog break last week after welcoming our first grandchild and attending our oldest daughter’s wedding.   What a whirlwind two weeks!  And this weekend, we got to spend the entire weekend with our new grandson.  What an absolute JOY! But I’m back today with a pretty birthday card featuring an old favorite stamp set, Watercolor Wings.  When this set was first introduced, it was extremely popular.  I think it’s still a great set with a lot more life left in it.

Here’s the details:

  • I really like this color combination of Pear Pizzazz and Sweet Sugarplum.  The patterns are from the Petal Garden Designer Series Paper.
  • The sentiment is from Happy Birthday, Gorgeous stamp set.

  • Look how pretty the new Pear Pizzazz 3/8″ shimmer ribbon is!
  • I stamped the butterfly twice on vellum using Sweet Sugarplum, Rich Razzleberry and Fresh Fig ink.  After stamping, I heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  It really gives it such a pretty shine.
  • I layered the two butterflies using the new mini Stampin Dimensionals on the body.  These little guys come in so handy…no more cutting the dimensionals to fit small spaces.
  • A few Glitter Enamel Dots are the perfect finishing touch.  I have a real problem when it comes to adding these type of embellishments.  Mine never quite look as random as I would like and then I end up pulling off some of the paper when I try to re-position them.  Anyone else have this issue…..?

  • The inside sentiment is also from Happy Birthday, Gorgeous.  I love the fonts and the sentiments in this set and have used them a lot.

  • A little Designer Series Paper on the envelope flap pulls the whole card together.

I promise I won’t post too many pictures of the new love of my life but here he is at one week old.

I’ll post a picture of our daughter’s wedding tomorrow.  I’m not sure this summer could get any better than this!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Take care,

Rosanne

A “Berry” Happy Birthday – Tic Tac Toe Challenge #005

It’s my “on” week for the Tic Tac Toe Challenge.  This challenge has really inspired a lot of creativity.  It’s great fun to see all the wonderful card creations each week.  I hope you will play along with us this week.  Here’s the challenge board…

Tic Tac Toe Challenge #005

I chose the bottom row across: birthday, pattern paper, pink.

Stampin Up Happy Birthday Die Birthday Card - Rosanne Mulhern stampinup

Here’s the details:

  • The card base is Whisper White thick card stock with a mat cut 1/8″ smaller from a pattern from the Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper.
  • I stamped a few flowers from the Bloomin’ Love stamp set on Whisper White card stock in Berry Burst ink.  The images in this stamp set match the Designer Series Paper pattern perfectly because that’s just what Stampin’ Up! does!!
  • This layer is matted on a piece of Berry Burst card stock and popped with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

  • The new Happy Birthday thinlit created the scripty sentiment.  I cut it once in Berry Burst card stock and again in Whisper White card stock.
  • After cutting each layer, I separated the words so I could fit them on the center panel.  I think it also created a more interesting layout.
  • To create a 3D shadow effect, I offset the layers just a bit.

Stampin Up Birthday Blossoms Birthday Card - Rosanne Mulhern stampinup

  • The inside sentiment is from the Birthday Blossoms stamp set.  I know with all the new sets in the Annual Catalog, it’s easy to overlook some of the “old favorites” but the sentiments in this set are just great for birthday cards.
  • A few more stamped flowers from Bloomin’ Love add the right touch!

Stampin Up Happy Birthday Die Powder Pink Birthday Card - Rosanne Mulhern stampinup

  • I made this card first in Powder Pink but decided that Berry Burst would create a brighter, bolder  card.  But I do like this one, too.  It’s so soft and subtle.  Now I have two pretty cards in my birthday stash!
  • I stamped both envelope flaps with the same floral image I used on the card.

I hope this card inspired you to give the Tic Tac Toe Challenge a try if you haven’t joined in yet.  And if you did, you already know how much fun it is.  I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Take care,

Rosanne

Saying Hello (to someone very special) – Tic Tac Toe Challenge #004

I’m back today with a card from the Floral Statements stamp set.  In my last post, I noted that I’m struggling a little with this set and I’m happy that I kept at it.  Today’s card is my entry in the Tic Tac Toe Challenge…

I chose the right row down: coloring, floral, In-Color Ink.  This challenge is great fun.  I hope you will play along with us!

Stampin Up Floral Statements Friendship Cards Idea - Rosanne Mulhern stampinup

Here’s the details:

  • The card base is Whisper White thick card stock.  This, as well as the new Very Vanilla thick card stock, make a perfectly sturdy base that really gives cards a quality feel.
  • The patterned layer is from Pick a Pattern Designer Series Paper.  I love a black and white pattern and this has such a pretty, modern feel.  I used this pattern in THIS project, too.  I’m almost out of it and will probably order another pack just to have more on hand.

  • I stamped the image in Basic Black Archival ink on Whisper White card stock and colored it using Flirty Flamingo and Pear Pizzazz Stampin’ Write markers.
  • Again, although it’s not evident in the photo, I added clear Wink of Stella to the flowers for a little bit of sparkle.
  • This layer is mounted on Flirty Flamingo card stock.
  • I wrapped the Basic Black (retired) ribbon and added a bow before popping it up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • The little embellishments are actually Basic Rhinestone Jewels that were colored with a black sharpie marker.  I’m never sure about the placement of these type of embellishments but I was happy where these landed!

  • Just adding a few pieces of card stock and a bit of Designer Series Paper creates a pretty and interesting area to add a personal note.
  • The envelope is also embellished with some leftover pieces of card stock and DSP.

Struggling with Floral Statements

Stampin Up Floral Statements Card - Rosanne Mulhern stampinup

Well, hello!  I guess you can tell by the title of the post that as much as I like this set, I am definitely struggling with designing with it.  This is the first time I’ve used it and was a little intimidated by it.  But sometimes these are the sets that I come to love the most.  So I’m hanging in there with it!

The images are so pretty and unique in this set.

Floral Statements – Wood #143738 Clear #144701

Here’s the details:

  • The card base is a new In-Color, Powder Pink card stock.  I think most soft pinks pair so well with Basic Black card stock.
  • I stamped the image in Versa Mark and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder on a panel of Powder Pink which measures 4 3/4″ x 2 3/4″.
  • The subsequent layers of Basic Black and Gold Foil paper are cut 1/8″ smaller.
  • After gluing the three layers, I popped them with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

  • Although the gold embossing is quite pretty, the card still need a little something.  So I added a few gold embellishments from the Metallic Enamel Shapes collection.

I’m usually pretty pleased with the cards I make but this one isn’t one of them.  How’s that for honesty!  However, I’m not giving up on this set and I’m working on another card with it…so stay tuned….

Thanks so much for looking in today and have a wonderful day!

Take care,

Rosanne
