Brewing Up a Halloween Shaker Card

Welcome to the October edition of CASEing Coast to Coast with Karen Hallam in CA and myself here in PA.  This month it was my turn to choose the direction of our project and I thought it would be fun to shake things up a bit with a shaker card.  I really enjoy making these types of cards and I know they are super fun to receive.  So here’s my cute halloween shaker…

I put this card together using a variety of products.  The patterned paper is from a Recollections 12 x 12 halloween pad.  It coordinated well with the copper foil paper.  The shaker cauldron is from a new Pretty Pink Posh release.  I filled it with a mix of embellishments from Buttons Galore and More.  I recently signed up for their  monthly subscription box.  It comes with a variety of seasonal embellishments and buttons (which I’ll use on my cross stitch projects).  I’ve only received two boxes so far but both have been so much fun.  And now this will give me a reason to make more shaker cards!  I used a sentiment stamp from Stampin’ Up!’s (retired) Cute Halloween stamp set and heat embossed the acetate on the front of the cauldron.  Lastly, I cut and popped up a few of the cute little ghosts from SU’s Cute Halloween 6 x 6 pad (also retired) to fly around the card.

Take Note: Card & Post-It Note Holder

It’s time for another CASEing (Copy & Selectively Edit) Cross Country adventure with Karen Hallam in CA and myself here in PA.  Each month, Karen and I take a turn deciding on the direction of our monthly project.  Sometimes it’s a theme, sketch or perhaps a color scheme.  This month, Karen chose the theme appropriately as it’s Back to School.  I know that no matter how old and removed I become from a school setting, I will always see September as the back to school month.  And I’m sure Karen, being a retired teacher, feels the same.  

So I get to show you Karen’s adorable card first.  Also, look how creative the envelope is peeking out behind the card!  You can get all the details on her blog HERE.

For my CASE, I created a card and matching Post-It Note holder using Simon Says Stamps Take Note stamp set and coordinating dies.

To create the marbled notebook look, I relied on a pattern from Echo Park’s Back to School 6 x 6 pad.  Who doesn’t love a marbled notebook?!  I attended Catholic school and these were the only “regulation” notebooks we were allowed to use.  No spiral bound notebooks for us until high school!

Country Pumpkin Autumn Card

Happy Monday!  I had a hard time trying to come up with a title for today’s post.  Honestly, I find trying to figure out blog titles the hardest part of blogging!  For today’s card,  the first thing that came to mind was it had a bit of a country vibe with the woodgrain and whitewashed floral background.  Using the patterned paper as a jumping point, I created a white(ish) pumpkin using the Fancy Pumpkin die from Jaded Blossom.  The sentiment is from Sunny Studios: Autumn Greetings stamp set.

Even though I enjoy making cards for many different seasons and occasions, I don’t send all of them. I really want to try to send most, if not all, the cards I make.  I guess I want to make this a hobby with more of a purpose.  So this year, I’m sending out Autumn cards, as well as Halloween and Thanksgiving.  I figure why let them sit in my craft room when they can perhaps brighten someone’s day.  If you would like to be on my “mailing list”, feel free to email me at [email protected] with your address and I could surprise you with a card.

I Thought of You Today

What makes this hobby so much fun for me is all the different products that are available.  But have you ever thought that you can only use certain products or that you need to only use the latest products?   I’ve had that mindset for a long time but I’m slowly giving myself permission to use anything that makes me happy.  And heaven knows I already have a lot of paper crafting supplies that I can create with!  Today’s card is an example of just that.  In trying to come up with a card for the Sunday Stamps challenge, I came across some older scrapbook embellishments that would work perfectly with the card I had in mind.  The flowers were the perfect compliment to the patterned paper and card design.
