Simply Elegant Christmas

Happy Monday!  I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday shared with family and friends.  Ours was a happy day spent with both family and friends.  The bonus being that I didn’t have to cook or host.  My oldest daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, James hosted a magnificent dinner.  Elizabeth is a superb cook and pulled out all the stops.  James deep-fried the turkey.  This was the first time I’ve had a turkey cooked this way and it was very tasty.  However, they live in downtown Philadelphia and the frying was done on the sidewalk in front of their house with all the neighbors applauding when it came out of the fryer!

Today’s card is a simple yet classic Christmas card.  I really like the clean lines with the added shine of gold.

Stampin Up Quilt Builder Christmas Card - Rosanne Mulhern

Here’s the details

  • The Very Vanilla thick card stock card base measures 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″.  I love a square card every now and again!
  • The next layer of Gold Foil measures 3 3/4″ x 3 3/4″ with a mat of Very Vanilla card stock cut 1/4″ smaller and adhered directly to the Gold Foil.  The whole panel is then popped with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • The last layer of Gold Foil measures 2 3/4″ x 2 3/4″ with a Very Vanilla mat cut 1/4″ smaller.
  • Before gluing the Very Vanilla panel, I stamped the sentiment, which is from the Hang Your Stocking photopolymer stamp set, in Versa Mark and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder.
  • Again, this panel is popped with Dimensionals.

  • I’m completely in love with these little flowers and have so many more ideas on how to use them.  They were created using the Quilt Builder Framelits using Gold Foil sheets and Cherry Cobbler card stock.  A couple of Metallic Enamel Shapes complete the center.
  • These, too, are popped on the sentiment panel with Dimensionals.   Creating a lot of dimension on such a simple layout makes a difference.

  • The inside panel is framed with Gold Foil also.  However, before adhering it to the card base, I cut out a few flowers from the center to conserve paper.  I was able to cut four flowers from it before adding the Very Vanilla panel on top.  This is a great tip, especially when using specialty paper like the foil…just a way to get more bang for your buck!
  • This sentiment is also from Hang Your Stocking stamp set and is stamped in Cherry Cobbler ink.

  • The envelope was created using the Envelope Punch Board and simply embellished with a bit of Cherry Cobbler card stock and a thin strip of Gold Foil sheet.

Sometimes simple is simply prettier and I think this card is a good example of that!

A Smitten Mitten Thank You – TTTC #025

It’s Thursday and a very special Thursday at that…HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

But it’s also time for another Tic Tac Toe Challenge.  This week my board is featured….

I loved the Smitten Mitten bundle the moment I saw it in the Holiday Catalog.  There is just something about mittens, hats and stockings in winter that always draw me in and I fell for this bundle immediately.  However, it’s taken me awhile to play with it.

For today’s card, I chose the third column down: stripes, thank you, twine and the third row across: blue, banner, twine.

Here’s the details

  • The card base is Very Vanilla thick card stock.
  • The patterned paper I used on this card is from Graphic 45.  The striped panel measures 4″ x 5 1/4″  and is popped with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • The sentiment is from the One Big Meaning stamp set and is stamped in Marina Mist ink.
  • I used a square punch to flag the end to create a banner.

  • I cut the mittens with the Many Mittens Framelits and added the cuffs and Very Vanilla baker’s twine along with a couple of enamel shapes.  I love the cut-out framelit!
  • The mittens are popped with dimensionals also.

  • In keeping with the clean and simple look of this card, I stamped the inside with another stamp from One Big Meaning stamp set.  The stamps I used for the front and inside are actually one stamp that I cut apart to create two individual stamps.  By doing this, you can get even more mileage from some stamps.
  • I embellished the inside and the envelope flap with more patterned paper.

I think this card would make a perfect thank you for the holidays.

I hope you will check out all the designer’s projects as well as those who are sharing their cards at the Tic Tac Toe Challenge this week.  I also hope that you will find inspiration in my board this week and join us by sharing your own project with us.

A LARGE Number Anniversary

Stampin Up Large Numbers Anniversary Card - Rosanne Mulhern

Taking a break from holiday card making today to show you this special anniversary card I made for a VERY special anniversary.  A friend and her husband are celebrating this wonderful milestone in early December and I wanted to create a pretty, golden card for the occasion.

Here’s the details

  • The card base is Very Vanilla thick card stock with an overlay pattern from the Bundle of Love Specialty Designer Series Paper.  This collection offers such pretty patterns in Soft Sky and Blushing Bride with a Gold Foil pattern on the other side of each.

  • The center panel is Gold Foil cut at 4″ x 3″ with a mat of Very Vanilla cut 1/8″ smaller.
  • HINT….Before adhering the Very Vanilla layer, I cut the numbers from the Gold Foil panel.  This is a great tip for saving paper, especially the “special” paper.

  • The sentiment is from the Best Birds stamp set and is heat embossed with Gold Embossing Powder.
  • As I stated above, I cut the numbers out using the Large Numbers framelits once in Gold Foil and then again three more times in Very Vanilla thick card stock and stacked them for a more dimensional look.
  • The Large Number framelits are so handy for occasions like this as well as special birthdays.

  • The ribbon and bow are made from a ribbon from last year’s Sale-a-bration catalog.  I’m always happy to be able to use up my retired products, especially ribbon.
  • After the ribbon is adhered, I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to raise the panel on the card base.

  • The inside sentiment is also from a retired stamp set, Falling For You.  I just had to use this because the sentiment is so perfect for this card and occasion. It’s stamped in Soft Suede ink.

It’s hard for me to capture a good photograph with the Gold Foil but this card came out exactly how I envisioned it…and that doesn’t always happen!

A Cozy Quilted Christmas

Stampin Up Christmas Quilt Christmas Cards - Rosanne Mulhern

Even though the Christmas Quilt Suite of Products are featured as a holiday set, this is the first Christmas card that I’ve made with it.  I have used this versatile bundle for a Fall card HERE and a baby card HERE.  This is one of those must have sets that can be used over and over to produce cards for so many occasions simply by changing the colors and patterns.  I created this card for the class I held over the weekend.

Quilted Christmas Photopolymer Bundle #146026

Here’s the details

  • The A2 card base is Garden Green card stock.
  • The next panel is Whisper White card stock cut 1/4″ smaller and embossed with the Quilt Top Embossing Folder for such lovely texture.

Stampin Up Christmas Quilt Christmas Card Ideas- Rosanne Mulhern

  • To create the quilt block, I cut a Garden Green scalloped square using the Layering Squares Framelits.  Then used the Quilt Builder Framelits for the patterned paper and the quilt square.
  • The pattern is from the Quilted Christmas Designer Series Paper collection.

  • For a little added touch, an enamel button in the center finishes it off.
  • I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the block to the card base.
  • The sentiment, from the Christmas Quilt stamp set, is stamped in Real Red ink and cropped with an oval from the Layering Ovals Framelits.  This is then glued to a stitched oval from the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  If someone were to ask me what framelits were absolutely essential, I would say thatI use either the Layering Circles, Square and Ovals along with the Stitched Shapes on most every card I create.
  • The sentiment is also popped with dimensionals.

Stampin Up Christmas Quilt Christmas Card Idea- Rosanne Mulhern

  • The inside is stamped with a non-SU sentiment in Real Red ink.  I have this Christmas sentiment set that seems to have just the right sayings for my holiday cards.
  • I little bit of DSP on the inside and the envelope flap makes for a pretty custom made card.
