Sympathy cards are not the most enjoyable to make but make a big difference to those who receive them. I always like to have a few on hand because these are the cards you don’t plan on sending. I also think they should be somewhat simple and subtle. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be beautiful as well. A simple way for me to keep a card “quiet yet elegant” is to make it monochromatic.
Here’s the details
- The card base is Very Vanilla thick card stock with a mat of Very Vanilla card stock cut 1/8″ smaller and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- A piece of Very Vanilla card stock is cut at 4 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ and a mat of gold foil paper is cut 1/8″ smaller.
- Before adhering these two pieces together, I stamped the floral image from Touches of Texture stamp set and the sentiment from Flourishing Phrases stamp set in Versa Mark ink and heat embossed them in gold embossing powder.

- A small piece of 1/8″ gold ribbon is wrapped around the sentiment layer and a small bow attached.
- This layer is popped on the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

- The inside sentiment is also from Flourishing Phrases stamp set and coordinates with the sentiment on the front of the card.
- I stamped it in Soft Suede ink, which is surprisingly close to gold.
- To give the inside a little more detail, I trimmed the sides of the sentiment layer with some Year of Cheer Washi Tape. It was so simple to do and created a very classic effect.

- The front of the envelope is embellished with more Year of Cheer Washi Tape.
This sympathy card was very simple to make and I think makes the perfect statement. And it was easy to make a few to have on hand.
Thanks for stopping by today.
Take care,
