Hand-Penned Get Well Card – #TTTC 197

Welcome back to our weekly Tic Tac Toe Challenge.  It’s my pleasure to host the challenge board this week and here’s what we have to play with….

If you’re still in the mood for love and Valentine’s Day, there’s a lot of elements to enjoy creating with on today’s board.  However, if you’re just about over this holiday, there’s still a lot of inspiration to be had for many other occasions.

I chose to go with a Get Well card today.  These, along with sympathy cards, are ones we generally don’t count on sending regularly and usually we need them right in the moment.  So I plan on making a few to keep on hand.

Stampin Up Penned Flowers Get Well Card - Rosanne Mulhern Heartfelt Stamping

I chose to go two ways on the board:  (1) the first column down: CAS, Stencil, Flowers and (2) middle row across: Stencil, Pink, Heart.

Materials & Measurements

  • Card base is Blushing Bride cardstock: cut at 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2, scored at 4 1/4″
  • Basic White cardstock: cut at 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″ & 5″ x 3 3/4″ (inside panel), 5″ x 1/8″ strip (inside)
  • Blushing Bride cardstock: cut at 5 1/4″ x 4″ (inside panel) & 1/2″ x 5″ strip (inside)

Details

  • I tried something new (for me) to create the stenciled image.  I cut the intricate floral die from the Penned Flowers dies on thick cardstock to create a stencil.
  • Using this, I stenciled the image on white cardstock twice.  One will be used on the front of the card and the other on the inside.
  • I punched the scalloped heart from the Heart Punch Pack on the bottom right of the Basic White panel.
  • Then I embossed it using a folder from my stash.
  • Before adhering the embossed panel to the card front, I glued a stenciled image under it to cover the heart cut out.  Then the embossed panel is adhered using Stampin’ Dimensionals to the card base.
  • The simple sentiment is stamped in Memento Black ink.  I trimmed it and flagged the ends using a square punch.  I also did the same with a small strip of Blushing Bride cardstock and trimmed the flagged ends to white sentiment strip.
  • Lastly, I added a pearl to the flower center.

  • With the second stenciled image, I punched a scalloped heart and added it to the inside along with some cardstock strips.
  • The sentiment is from the Cup of Tea stamp set.

  • Once I had all the stenciling done, I was left with a beautifully color blended die cut.  So not to waste it, I added it to the envelope front.

I hope you’ll considering playing along with our challenge this week.  It really is very inspiring and fun to see the board elements come together.

CC2C Clean & Simple with Stampin’ Up!’s Decorative Borders

If it’s the third Wednesday of the month, it’s also time for another cross-country stamping adventure.  Karen Hallam in CA and myself, here in PA take this trip each month to CASE (copy and selectively edit) each other’s card.  This month it was my turn to choose our direction and I went with a Clean and Simple design.  You can see Karen’s card HERE.

And here’s my take….

Stampin Up Decorative Borders Thinking of You Card - Rosanne Mulhern Heartfelt Stamping

Clean and simple sounds like it should be…simple, right?  Well, this is a design I seem to struggle with despite loving the look of those type of cards.  I hope my card today captures that vibe.

Materials & Measurements

  • Basic White thick card stock card base:  cut at 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • Basic White card stock panel:  cut at 4″ x 5 1/4″ & 3 3/4″ x 5″ (inside panel)
  • Patterned paper from Sun Prints DSP:  cut at 6″ x 2 3/4 & 3/4″ strip for inside
  • Gray Granite card stock strip: cut at 1/4″ x 3 3/4″ strip for inside
  • Flirty Flamingo card stock strip: cut at 1/8″ x 3 3/4″ strip for inside

Stampin Up Decorative Borders Thinking of You Card -Rosanne Mulhern Heartfelt Stamping

  • Line the DSP pattern on a diagonal and glue to the bottom of the Basic White panel.  Trim the excess paper around the edges.
  • Stamp the sentiment on the top left side of this panel.  I used a sentiment from the Pansy Patch stamp set and stamped it in Memento black ink.
  • Stamp the floral image from the Decorative Borders stamp set and heat emboss in black embossing powder (embossing is optional but I like the extra dimension it gives the image).
  • Color the image using Stampin’ Blends.  I used Old Olive and Flirty Flamingo.
  • Since this set doesn’t come with coordinating dies, I hand cut the image.  It was very easy!
  • Glue the floral image along the diagonal border of the DSP.
  • I added a small pearl to the center flower.
  • I left the inside blank for now as I thought the sentiment on the front could lend itself to a few different occasions.

  • The envelope flap is simply embellished with a stamped floral image to coordinate with the card.

I wanted to take a minute to talk about the Decorative Borders stamp set in the Mini Catalog.  This is a set that I call a “sleeper”.  It may not jump out at you at first glance but I must say that the images are so pretty and versatile.  I’m really enjoying creating with them and will be showing more of this set in future posts.

I’m excited for you to head over to Karen’s blog HERE to see her Clean & Simple creation.  I know you’ll enjoy it!

Love Cats Valentine Fun Fold

Happy Monday…I’m sharing the last of my Valentine’s today with two fun fold cards using the same measurements but different orientation.  I used the Love Cats stamp set for both.  Let’s start with this one…

Stampin' Up! Love Cats Valentine Fun Fold - Rosanne Mulhern Heartfelt Stamping

I’m not a cat person, although I would love to be but I’m very allergic to them.  Despite this, I could not resist purchasing the adorable Love Cats stamp set.  I especially like this lounging kitty but the other two images are just as cute.  This card is a fun fold created in a portrait (vertical) orientation.

This is how it opens to the inside…

The second card opens is created in a landscape (horizontal) orientation.

Stampin' Up! Love Cats Valentine Gift Card Holder - Rosanne Mulhern Heartfelt Stamping

This orientation was ideal for adding a gift card pocket. I’ll be sending it to my one of my daughters for Valentine’s Day.  I also customized the cat color since she has a gray cat.

Here’s more details….

If was vey easy to make two card in one pass as the measurements for the front of both cards are the same:

  • Basic White card base:  cut at 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 3 1/2″ & 9″
  • Basic Black mat:  cut at 4″ x 3 1/4″ & 4″ x 1 3/4″ for the outside and 4″ x 5 1/4″ for the inside
  • DSP:  cut at 3 7/8″ x 3 1/8″ & 3 7/8″ x 1 5/8″.  The top card uses a pattern from the Country Gingham 6 x 6 collection and the bottom card a pattern from the Count12 x 12 collection.
  • I glued a Basic White strip measuring 4 1/4″ x 1/4″ to the inside of the smaller scored side (see photo).  This is optional but it does allow the card to close better.
  • Basic White cardstock for inside sentiment: cut at 3 3/4″ x 5″
  • For the gift card pocket: cut a black mat at 3 1/4″ x 2″ and a DSP panel at 3 1/8″ x 1 7/8″.  I used a small circle punch to create the notch.
  • Besides using the sentiments from Love Cats, I used the Country Bouquet stamp set to stamp some of the sentiments on both cards.
  • Before gluing the mats and DSP panels to the front of the gift card holder, I wrapped at Black checked gingham ribbon around each panel.
  • The image on the gift card holder is stamped on a Stitched Rectangle Die and a bow is added to the side with glue dots.
  • I punched a few small hearts with red glitter paper to finish each card off.

Rain or Shine…Hi There, Valentine

Rain or Shine, Hi there, Valentine card - Rosanne Mulhern Heartfelt Stamping

With Valentine’s Day less than a week away, I’m wanted to share the last couple of cards before putting them in the mail.  I recently got the Rain or Shine Designer Series Paper after seeing so many adorable cards made with it.  While I didn’t purchase the bundle, I honestly think that the paper can do all the work to create so many cute projects.  When I re-signed as a demonstrator with Stampin’ Up!, I decided that I was going to focus on showing how to stretch your stamping dollars in fun yet economical ways and this is one example of that.  I used sentiments from two other sets along with the Rain or Shine DSP, which by the way, is so bright and cheerful, to create a Valentine’s card.
