CASEing Coast to Coast: Pierced Blooms Slimline…Just Because

Hello there!  I’m winding down (14 days to go) a very hectic school year and  have been seriously absent from posting (and creating) for a few weeks.  However, it’s time for another CASEing Coast to Coast project with my friend, Karen Hallam in CA and I could not miss that!  Once a month, Karen and I each create a card based either on one the other has made or from a specific theme.  This month, we choose to create a slimline card.  I love slimline cards and was hoping to get a bit of my creative mojo back.  Here’s what I came up with…

Stampin Up Pierced Blooms Just Because Card - Rosanne Mulhern stampinup

Today’s card is one that could be used for a variety of occasions or simply just because!

Materials & Measurements

  • The Basic White card base: 8″ x 7″, scored at 3 1/2″ on the 7″ side
  • Basic Black panels: 7 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ (cut 2) and 1/8″ x 3 1/4″ (cut 2)
  • The True Love DSP pattern:  7 3/4″ x 3 1/4″ and 1/2″ x 3 1/4″ (cut 2)
  • Basic White card stock:  7 3/4″ x 3 1/4″

Details

  • Glue one of the large Basic Black panels onto the Basic White card base.
  • Glue the DSP pattern to the Basic Black panel.
  • Cut the center panel from Basic White card stock using a die from the Ornate Layers dies and glue to the center of the card.
  • Stamp a sentiment from the Pretty Perennials stamp set to the top right corner of the die cut.
  • Stamp “happy” from the same set and cut out.  I used the Brother Scan n Cut to cut this and create the black mat.  Though you could easily hand cut both.  Glue below the stamped sentiment.
  • Using the Pierced Blooms dies, cut the flowers and leaves.  I used Flirty Flamingo, Blushing Bride, Old Olive and Pear Pizzazz card stock.
  • The flower centers are clear enamel dots that I colored with Stampin’ Blends.
  • The flowers are popped up with dimensionals.

  • The inside is layered with Basic Black and Basic White card stock.
  • The inside sentiment is from the new Pansy Patch stamp set.
  • I simply embellished each side of the sentiment panel with 1/2″ strips of DSP and 1/8″ strips of Basic Black card stock.

  • I created a custom sized envelope and embellished it with DSP and Basic Black strips.

Creating custom sized envelopes for slimline cards are quick and easy.  Stay tune…I’m working on a post sharing a few templates for various sized slimline cards.

Thanks very much for stopping by today and for hanging in there with me during my “dry spell”.  Summer vacation is right around the corner and I’m looking forward to getting back to a more regular posting schedule.

Take care,

Rosanne

Ombre Thank You Notes

Welcome to another edition of CASEing Coast to Coast with Karen Hallam from CA and myself here in PA.  If you’re new here, each month Karen and I take turns CASEing (Copy and Selectively Edit) each other’s card.  This month we’re going with an Ombre theme.  Take a look at Karen’s fun and colorful seascape…

For my ombre effort, I created a set of Thank You notes….

Simon Says Stamps Peonies Background Thank You Card Ideas - Rosanne Mulhern

Once again, I used a variety of products to create these cards.  The focal point is the  large 6″ x 6″ Pretty Peonies Background stamp from Simon Says Stamps.  I stamped it on Stampin’ Up!’s Oh So Ombre Designer Series Paper in Versa Mark ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder.  The stamped panel is layered onto the loopy scalloped edge frame from Gina Marie Designs, which is then layered on the colored card base.

I used the SSS Big Thanks die cut for the sentiment.  This die includes the sentiment as well as the shadow die.

Good Morning Magnolia Thinking of You

Stampin Up Good Morning Magnolia Thinking of You Card - Rosanne Mulhern stampinup

My card today features the big, bold and beautiful magnolia from the Good Morning, Magnolia stamp set.  This bloom is a dream to color and has such a WOW factor on any card.  I stamped it with Versa Mark ink and heat embossed with black embossing powder before coloring it with Copic markers.

While I’m loving this flower, I think I’m most excited about the stenciled background.  This is a slimline stencil from Pink Fresh Studio.  I used Black Soot distressed oxide ink and a blending brush to create the background.  I found that the distressed oxide inks blend so much smoother than other inks.  And they make stenciling easier for a beginner like me.  I’m definitely going to be purchasing and using more stencils.  They’re so versatile as you can control the amount of saturation to create different effects as you’ll see on the inside of the  card.  Not to mention how quick and easy stenciling is.

I stenciled the inside with a the same ink as the front only using a lighter amount of ink on the brush.  The sentiment is from the Happy Thoughts stamp set.

All Stampin’ Up! products that I used are listed below.

Is stenciling something you’ve done or do now?  I’m not sure why I haven’t tried it before this!

Stampin Up True Love and Daisies All Occasion Cards - Rosanne Mulhern stampin up

Today I created a set of all occasion cards that would make a very nice gift.  I really enjoy making sets of cards as it’s only one design but you can have fun with all the color choices.

I’ll link to all the Stampin’ Up! products below.  However, some of the sentiments came from a Hero Arts monthly kit.  I’m sure you could find many alternative sentiments that would work just as well.
