Cute Baby Overalls – CASEing Coast to Coast

Welcome to our monthly cross country CASEing (Copy & Selectively Edit) adventure. Karen Hallam in CA and I, here in PA, enjoy CASEing either a card or a theme each month. This month’s theme is “Celebrations”. It was Karen’s month to create the card to be CASE’d. Here’s Karen’s bright and cheerful card…

Doesn’t this card just make your eyes POP?!

I have an absolutely JOYOUS celebration to highlight this month. Our second grandchild, Luke Stephen, was born last Wednesday. He joined big brother, Jack and our daughter, Emily and husband, Mike. Needless to say, we are thrilled and overjoyed that he’s here!

In honor of this special celebration, I created a baby card CASEing Karen’s color scheme…

This card is cased from Lisa Curcio. I found her adorable overall card on Pinterest and thought it would make a unique baby card. You can view Lisa’s tutorial HERE.

I think Pacific Point and Poppy Parade card stock and DSP created a simply adorable pair of overalls. After following Lisa’s tutorial, I decided to give the straps and pockets a bit more dimension by embossing them with the Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder. The buttons are dies from My Favorite Things Vintage Button dies.

After creating my initial card, I went ahead and made two more using patterns from the Pansy Petals Designer Series Paper collection. Though not necessarily a natural choice for baby cards, I thought the gingham paired with the other patterns worked well.

The cute little kangaroo baby is from the soon retiring, Kangaroo & Company stamp set. I actually found myself using this set more than I thought I would. Here are a few other cards I created using this set. I know I’ll hang onto it for a while as it’s just that cute!

Fine Art Floral Mini Slimline Set

Today I’m continuing my quest to find ways to create with the Fine Art Floral Designer Series Paper. As I mentioned before, this paper collection initially intimidated me. I felt that it was a bit too “artsy” for me. But I actually found myself truly enjoying creating with it. So I created a set of (my favorite) mini slimline cards using this pretty pattern from the DSP.

Materials & Measurements

Basic White Thick cardstock: 6″ x 7″, scored at 3 1/2″
Basic Black cardstock: 5 7/8″ x 3 3/8″, 3 1/8″ x 1/8″ (cut 2)
Colored cardstock: 5 3/4″ x 3 1/4″, 3 1/8″ x 1/2″
Fine Art Floral DSP: 5 5/8″ x 3 1/8″

Poppy Parade

Details

Layer the Basic Black, colored cardstock & DSP to the card base.
When choosing the colored cardstock colors, I tried to pick a color that was a little more pronounced in the DSP cut. The cardstock colors are listed under each card.

So Saffron

I added the colored cardstock strip to the center and the thin Basic Black strips to either side.

Balmy Blue

Using the (retired) Punch Party stamp set, I stamped the swirly frame on white cardstock and the sentiment on Basic Black cardstock.
The sentiment is stamped in Versa Mark ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder. Note: the sentiment on the card above is from the Pansy Patch stamp set.
Both are punched using the Double Oval punch.

Flirty Flamingo

I created a custom envelope from 32lb paper which is a little heavier than regular computer paper and has a smoother finish.

Fine Art Floral Congratulations Card

June already?! It would be almost hard to believe if not for the forever long school year. But the end is near! With the end of the school year, there are always good-byes to co-workers who are retiring or leaving for other reasons. Today’s card is a congratulation card for our retiring guidance counselor.

I was determined to use a pattern from the pretty Fine Art Floral Designer Series Paper. This paper actually intimidates me! I feel like it’s too artistic and I’m much more simple and straightforward in my card making designs. So I found I was more comfortable tempering it with a more classic pattern like the Blushing Bride checked pattern from the 6″x6″ Subtles DSP.

Materials & Meaurements

Basic White Thick card stock: 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored @ 4 1/4″
Blushing Bride 6×6 Subtles DSP: 5 1/2″ x 2 1/2″
Fine Art Floral DSP: 5 1/2″ x 1 1/2″
Blushing Bride card stock: 5 1/2″ x 3/4″ & 5 1/2″ x 1/4″
Silver Foil: 5 1/2″ x 1/8″ (cut 3)

Details

Glue the Subltes DSP to the top of the card base.
Glue the Fine Art Floral DSP piece right below the Subltes DSP.
This will leave a 1/4″ area on the bottom of the card base to glue the 1/4″ strip of Blushing Bride card stock.

Before adhering the 3/4″ strip of Blushing Bride card stock to the center of the card, stamp the sentiment, from the Happy Thoughts stamp set, in Versa Mark ink and heat emboss with silver embossing powder.
Add 1/8″ silver foil strips as shown.

The inside sentiment is from the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set. This sentiment is really versatile and can be used for numerous occasions.
I embellished the inside pattern to coordinate with the card front.

I generally don’t spotlight just the envelope but I thought this envelope flap coordinated so well and was the perfect way to give a hint of “pretty” inside.

I’m going to step out of my comfort zone and try to come up with a few more cards using the beautiful designs in the Fine Art Floral DSP collection before it retires at the end of the month.
