Biggest Wish Birthday

Happy Monday!  I hope you had a good weekend and you’re looking forward to a nice, warm (maybe HOT!) summer week ahead. I spent some time playing with a new set that wasn’t initially on my radar when I first looked through the Annual Catalog.  Then I began seeing so many great cards created with the Biggest Wish stamp set…now I had to have it!

The big, bold sentiments along with the smaller, scripty ones will be so useful for many different types of cards.  Today, I created a pretty birthday card that I would say is gender neutral…would you agree?

The card layout is pretty straightforward with a Basic White thick card stock card base and a Crumb Cake panel.

Not Just For Christmas…The pretty botanical background is a pattern from the Tidings of Christmas Designer Series Paper.  This is one of the DSP collections on sale this month at 15% off.  There are several patterns in this collection that go well beyond Christmas.

Fun Foliage…I used a variety of dies from the Forever Flourishing dies to create one of the focal points.

Make a Bold Statement…Like a mentioned above, the Biggest Wishes stamp set makes a big impact and creates another focal point.  I stamped the big birthday sentiment in black ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  It’s cut using a stitched rectangle and matted on a piece of Crumb Cake card stock.

The “happy” is stamped in black ink and hand cut.  I also cut a Basic Black mat to make it stand out.

Inside Scoop…the sentiment is from the Best Year stamp set and is stamped in black ink.  A strip of DSP and coordinating card stock gives a the inside panel some interest.

See the Value…I’m really glad I gave this set a second look.  It’s one of the least expensive sets in the catalog and I know I’ll be using it over and over.  If anything, this set will give a more life to a lot of stamps sets I already own.

Hand-Penned Friendship Card

Stampin Up Hand Penned Petals Birthday Card - Rosanne Mulhern stampinup.jpg

I’ve been spending time creating with some of the products in the Hand-Penned Suite.  I absolutely love this bundle.  However, today’s card just features the very pretty coordinating Hand-Penned Designer Series Paper. The colors in this collection are so inspiring and fun to work with.  It’s also one of the collections available for 15% off this month through August 2nd.

Hand-Penned Designer Series Paper
#155499

There’s quite a bit of measuring and cutting on this card.  But once that’s done, it goes together very easily.

Materials & Measurements

  • Basic White Thick card stock:  8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
  • Pale Papaya card stock: 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″ and 4 1/2″ x 2 1/4″
  • Basic White card stock: 5 1/4″ x 2 1/4″
  • Hand-Penned (Dotted) DSP: 5 1/4″ x 1 3/4″
  • Hand-Penned (Floral) DSP: 4 1/4″ x 2 1/8″, cut into (4) 1 1/16″ strips

Details

  • Emboss the 2 1/4″ Basic White panel using the Tasteful Texture 3D embossing folder and glue to the large Pale Papaya panel, leaving an 1/8″ border around the top and sides.
  • Glue the dotted DSP pattern below the embossed layer, leaving an 1/8″ border around the bottom and sides.  NOTE:  there may be a little overlapping or a gap where the panels meet in the middle.  The ribbon will hide this.
  • Arrange the 1 1/16″ floral DSP onto the smaller Pale Papaya panel being sure to line up the pattern.  Glue the panel to the embossed panel.
  • Wrap Pale Papaya & White 1/2″ ribbon around this panel.
  • Glue panel to the Basic White card base.
  • The bow was adhered with glue dots.
  • For the sentiment I used a stamp from the Plentiful Plants stamp set and cut using a label die from the All Dressed Up Dies.  This is popped with dimensionals.

  • The inside sentiment is from the newly retired Happy Thoughts stamp set.  I really wish this set would have stayed longer as the sentiments are  great for the inside of cards.

Slimline Envelope Tutorials

If you’ve been a follower for the past few months, you know that I have fully embraced the slimline card trend.  I really enjoy making both standard slimline as well as mini slimline cards.  I’ve made several of both, but the mini slimline is my favorite.

When slimline trend first hit the scene, I bought “resume” envelopes from an office supply store and used those for a while.  But I found they were too big for the size card I was comfortable with.  And when I started creating mini slimlines, I needed envelopes for those.  So I came up with a template for both a standard and mini slimline.

My standard size slimline measures 8″ x 3 1/2″.  The envelope starts with an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of 32lb paper.  I found that using card stock was too heavy and regular 20lb copy paper seemed to light.  32lb paper seems to work perfectly and has a nice smooth finish. You can find the paper I use HERE.

Here are a couple standard slimline cards and envelopes.

My mini slimline measures 6″ x 3 1/2″.  The envelope starts with an 8″ x 9″ sheet of 32lb paper.

And here are a few mini slimline I created.
