Hello…Karen Hallam at Karens Stamping Habit and I are back today with our monthly card CASEing collaboration. Each month, Karen (from sunny California) and I (from cold and dreary Pennsylvania) take turns at CASEing (Copying and Selectively Editing) each other’s cards. CASEing provides a great starting point for creating a card. It’s also a fun and effective way to get your creative juices flowing if you’re stumped for ideas. For today’s card, I used a combination of products both current and retired from a variety of companies. This is something I’ll be doing more as I find that it’s fun to reach into my stash and find products that coordinate so well but are not necessarily meant to. Not to mention, that it feels great to be using more of what I’ve purchased!
This card started with a Whisper White thick card stock base. I cut the stitched frame from My Favorite Things Stitched Rectangle Frames. To create the pretty inset, I simply took a design from the retired SU Delightfully Detailed Laser Specialty paper, cut it to fit and glued it to the back of the frame. I then added another piece of Whisper White card stock to the back of the cut-out design. Lastly, I added a piece of white fun foam and mounted it on the card base for a nice dimensional look.
The floral image, from SU Forever Blossoms, was stamped and cut using the Brother Scan n Cut. This stamp set does have a coordinating die set. However, I didn’t purchase it knowing that the SNC would be able to cut it out. I colored it with a combination of Stampin’ Blends and Copic Markers with a little added Wink of Stella on the flower petals.
Lastly, I stamped the sentiment on a piece of Blushing Bride card stock, heat embossed it in white embossing powder and cut it out using SU Layering Ovals dies. I glued the sentiment oval to another oval cut from vellum and glued them to the front of the card.
The inside sentiment is from the SU set, Flourishing Phrases with a partial stamped image of the floral image used on the front.
While I had everything out, I created another card with basically the same materials. I changed the card orientation, used a different laser paper design and colored the flowers a different color.

I found so much inspiration in this card it was a bit difficult to narrow it down to exactly what I was going to copy. Using Karen’s layout, I created this fun winter shaker card.
Ok…so I’ve dabbled in making a few Christmas cards so far but now that all my Thanksgiving cards have been sent, I’m getting serious about it! For today’s card, I pulled out a beautiful set that was introduced in last year’s Holiday Catalog and carried over to this year’s Annual Catalog…Dashing Deer stamp set and the coordinating Detailed Deer dies. With all the new sets introduced in the current Holiday Catalog, it’s easy to forget that the Annual Catalog has some really pretty older and new sets also.
I used another sentiment from the Greatest Part of Christmas stamp set for the inside and embellished it with a pretty border stamp from Dashing Deer.
I love the traditional plaid patterns in the Wrapped in Plaid Designer Series Paper collection. So the hardest part about this card was selecting one!
The pretty holly leaves, from the Christmas Gleaming stamp set were fun to color. I used Copic Markers to color these as I’m finding that some of my Stampin’ Blends’ tips are failing and I’m not going to replace them when I have Copics. After coloring and cutting them (with a Scan n Cut), I added a bit of clear glitter glue to the leaves and Crystal Effects to the berries. Along with the Gold Foil, this gave the card such pretty sparkle and shine.
I enjoy stamping and embellishing the inside of my cards and envelopes almost as much as creating the card fronts. The sentiment is from a non-SU stamp set. I have a collection of stamp sets from a variety of companies with just sentiments for the inside of cards. I’m always on the lookout for sentiments with a little more meaning and expression.
