One Card – Two Occasions

Hello…hope you are enjoying a beautiful spring weekend.  It is absolutely beautiful here today and I am really enjoying what is left of this weekend.

I’m not playing along with any challenges today…very unusual for me.  So today I was just creating on my own to see what my brain could hatch.  Here is my little hatchling……

I was in need of a First Communion card and a Baptism card for two of my great-nieces.  Since both cards were for girls, I wanted to come up with a design that I could use for both and that was super feminine.

I created the card on the right first and thought it needed a little more detail.  So I did the second card using the Elegant Dots embossing folder.  Not sure which card I will be using for which occasion but they are both very fitting.

The card base is Whisper White Thick cardstock and the mat is Pink Pirouette.  The cross is layered on a Tea Lace Doilie using Dimensionals.  The cross is Crumb Cake and was made using the retired Modern Label punch.  It needs to be punched three times as the long part of the cross uses 1 1/2 labels.  This is no problem since the flower is covering the intersection.  The also retired Boho Flower punch was used to create the flower.  I just punched a few and layered them until I had a fluffy flower and then added a Basic Pearl.  The ribbon is Pink Pirouette Seam Binding.

For the sentiment, both front and inside, I used the Trust God stamp set which is retiring this year.  I stamped it in Soft Suede ink and punched it out using the Scalloped Oval punch, also on the retirement list.

Best is Yet to Come – PPA #296

I hope that you are enjoying a wonderful weekend.  We are having a fabulous weather weekend here in Southeastern PA.  Yesterday was such a glorious day that I just had to abandon the craft room and spend in outside.  So I visited Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA which is only 15 minutes from where I live.  It is truly one of the best botanical gardens in the U.S. and since it is so close, I’m a member which means that I’m there quite a bit.

Since you are here to see my project…I will get right to it!  I am playing along with the Pals Paper Arts #296 sketch challenge.  This is a terrific sketch by a super talented stamper, Susan Itell and I am not just saying that because she just so happens to be my super upline too!

PPA-296-Apr14 (1)

This was a fun sketch to create for and really left a lot of possibilities….

I knew that I wanted to stamp an image on the vertical piece so when I looked through my sets, I came upon the very neglected set, Bordering Blooms.  After I chose that set, I looked through my DSP collection and found the coordinating pattern in the Pretty Petals 6 x 6 DSP stack…BINGO!

Watermarked Photo 2 (2016-04-17-1527)

The card base is Very Vanilla and both the stamped piece, which is stamped in Old Olive, and the DSP are matted in Old Olive.  Then since I know that Blackberry Bliss is slated to retire soon, I chose to create some little flowers using the flower punch from the Itty Bitty Accent Punch Pack.  I doubled them and added a small pearl then adhered with mini glue dots to the trailing vine.  The sentiment from the Best Thoughts hostess set is stamped in Blackberry Bliss ink and matted on the same cardstock.  I cut both the sentiment and the mat using the Lots of Labels framelits and popped it up with dimensionals.

OK..so here is a BLOOPER ALERT!

After the front of the card was completed, I found the perfect sentiment for the inside from the Wild About Flowers stamp set.  I think it just goes so well with the sentiment on the front even though they are from different sets.  So I went ahead and stamped it in Blackberry ink….CROOKED!  Every time this happens, I promise myself that I’m going to stamp the inside first, before the outside is all decorated.  And I never do!

So here is my solution without having the start over again.

Watermarked Photo 5 (2016-04-17-1529)

I simply recreated the same idea I used on the front sentiment and covered over the crooked one. And the only people who will know this are you and me!

This is another of those versatile cards that could be used for a number of occasions.  I really like to have a few of these on hand and this sentiment combination is just perfect.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of the weekend and that you enjoyed a little look at how I spent mine.

Remember that the retirement list comes out tomorrow afternoon.  I will try to get it posted as soon as it comes out.  Also, don’t forget that I have a special for the month of April…with every $50 order (before tax & shipping) I will send you a package of Basic Pearls and a handmade card.  There are also some awesome weekly deals (the last ones to be offered) going on until tomorrow, 4/18.  Just click on my Shop Now button to see these deals and to order from my online shop.

Thanks very much.

Until next time,

A Flower Patch Punch

Hello…today’s card was inspired by The Paper Players #290 color challenge….

pp290

This is as great color combination and one that I would never have thought of.  That’s why I love these challenges.  They really stretch your creativity.  Here’s what happened when I stretched…

I think this is such a cheerful card and cannot wait to send it.  I have a few birthdays coming up so I will have to decide who get this one.

The card base is Whisper White Thick cardstock with a mat of Soft Sky.  The DSP is from the English Garden DSP pack and is cut to 1 1/2″.  The thin Melon Mambo and Pumpkin Pie strips are 1/4″ wide.

Watermarked Photo 2 (2016-04-13-1824)

I cut a circle from the Circles collection framelits and stamped the sentiment, which is from the Birthday Blooms stamp set, with Versa Mark and heat embossed it with black embossing powder. The flowers and leaves are from the Flower Patch stamp set and cut with the coordinating Flower Fair framelits.  I added a enamel dot to the center flower.  The flowers and leaves are all adhered to the circle using dimensionals.  I also popped the circle up on the card after the flowers were attached.

The inside sentiment is from the Lovely Amazing You stamp set.

I hope you like today’s card and I would be happy to answer any questions or comments you may have.  Thanks for stopping by!

Until next time…take care,

A Bold Thank You

Today I am playing along with Can You Case It #115 color challenge.

CYCI115-300x244

These colors reminded me of back to school but that’s not where this card went!  I decided that since these were three very bold colors, a bold and striking card was called for.

Watermarked Photo 1 (2016-04-12-1838)

I really like the goemetric and modern feel of this card.  This is a style I find more difficult but I must say that this card came together surprising quickly.

Watermarked Photo 3 (2016-04-12-1839)

The card base is Basic Black with a Whisper White mat.  The black strips are cut to 1/4″ wide and about 8″ long.  The first strip I glued was the one on the top left corner.  Then I took another 1/4″ strip and just placed it next to the first one but did not adhere it.  I used this strip as a spacer to make sure my spaces were even in between strips.  After all the strips were glued, I put the card back on my paper cutter and trimmed the excess.

The flower is from the Beautiful Bunch stamp set and is one of my favorite flower stamps in the whole catalog.  It is stamped twice and colored with Real Red ink and a blender pen. Then punched using the Fun Flower punch. I stamped another flower just so I could use the center, which is colored with Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write marker and fussy cut. The sentiment is from the Tin of Cards stamp set.

Watermarked Photo 2 (2016-04-12-1838)   Watermarked Photo 4 (2016-04-12-1839)-2

The inside is embellished with a little bit of DSP from the Neutrals Designer Series Paper Pack and Real Red cardstock.

This card could easily be adapted for almost any occasion and would certainly make a bold statement!
