The challenge at the Global Design Project this week is a color challenge and these colors were a bit of a challenge for me.

What I love about participating in challenges like this is how a card evolves from a sketch or color combination that I would never have thought to put together. I really admire the design teams of these challenges. These challenges are a great way to stretch your creativity, not to mention they become somewhat addictive! Here is what I came up with for this challenge….

I used several stamp sets for this rather simple card. First, I stamped the flourish from the Everything Eleanor stamp set in Early Expresso. Then I used one of the smallest stamps in the Timeless Textures stamp set to stamp the little background blotches. I stamped them in Tangelo Twist and Bermuda Bay by stamping them off twice before stamping on the card for a very subtle effect.

The sentiment is from the Butterfly Basics stamp set and punched with Decorative Label punch. This was popped up with dimensionals. The flowers, from the Petite Petals stamp set, were stamped in Early Expresso and colored using Stampin’ Write markers then punched with the coordinating Petite Petals punch.

I left the inside without a sentiment. These type of cards are great to have on hand. I can add a stamped sentiment or just write a personal note.

A Nautical Traveler

Today I am playing along with two challenges. Can You Case It #113 is a color challenge and The Challenge #66 is a masculine photo inspiration….you can see how these two challenges actually go hand in hand.

The challenge here for me was the masculine card. These type of cards are a little out of my comfort zone so this was good practice to create one.

Since I really do not own any nautical themed stamp sets, I turned to the steamship in the Traveler stamp set which I stamped in Basic Gray. The cardstock I used is Soft Suede (I hope that will pass for the Kraft), Night of Navy and Smoky Slate (inside). The DSP is from the Regals Designer Series Pack.

The inside sentiment is from the Tin of Cards stamp set. Even if you do not have the Tin of Cards kit, I would recommend buying this stamp set. The sentiments are so useful and the font is fabulous. I have used this set so many times and will continue to use them even if they retire…they are that good!

Flower-Filled Teacup

Hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Easter. Ours was quite lovely. Our newlyweds, Emily & Mike hosted this year. The food was delicious and the company even better!

Today my card share is for the Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge. Michelle chose such a soft and pretty color palette….

I really had a great time making this card.

This is called a side easel card and it is the first one I’ve made. I found a few tutorials on Pinterest but had to alter the dimensions to fit the teacup image.

Along with using these soft subtle colors, I also used a few more of my favorite products. The Cups & Kettle Framelits were used to cut the teacup. I stamped the little flowers on the cup from the Bloomin Love stamp set in Versa Mark and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. The sweet little flowers are punched using the Itty Bitty Accents Punch. They are simply punched from the Subtles Designer Series Pack and then accented with Pearls.

The sentiment is from the Suite Sayings stamp set.

This card folds perfectly to fit in an A2 envelope for mailing. Because of the flowers I will add extra postage but it is definitely worth it.

A Bouquet of Ballerinas

My card share today is very photo-heavy but I think you will enjoy it. Here is my bouquet of ballerinas…..

I shared a card earlier this month here featuring the same ballerina. Well I had such a good time creating that card, I just had to do another and another and another……! I love how delicate the little ballerina is when you fussy cut her out. I received a lot of comments about fussy cutting. I find it pretty relaxing and do not mind it a bit. The ballerina is stamped twiced. First image is colored and cut and the second image only needs the tutu colored and cut. Then I placed the second tutu on top of the first with a small piece of dimensional to give it more “poofi-ness”. The entire ballerina is adhered with dimensionals also.

The stamp set is the Sparkly Seasons stamp set that is unfortunately retired now. It was in the Holiday Catalog. I just love the idea of snow globes so I wanted to hang onto this set a little while longer and I’m very glad I did.

The sentiments for the card are from the Remembering Your Birthday stamp set. Here is the inside sentiment…

The embossing folder is the Polka Dots (retired) and the ribbon and the sequins are from Michaels. I did the best I could with matching these to the cardstock. The envelope liner DSP is retired also. I think this is a great way to use up retired paper and still have a very coordinated project. I do love all the current Stampin’ Up! products and use them but sometimes some of the retired sets still have a lot of life left in them for me.

I hope that you enjoyed these adorable dancers as much as I enjoyed creating them. I know a few little dancers that I will be sending them to.
